Open by Appointment Dec. to May

Tomorrow, Dec. 1, starts our winter & spring hours.  From Dec. 1 to May 31 we're open by appointment.  That means, from Dec. to May, to phone 620-597-2450 a day ahead, and leave a message on our answering machine with your name, the day and time you'll come, and what you want to buy.  Our phone rings in our house, so I'll get your message when I come in from working in the sales building or orchard.  State your phone number clearly in your message, so I can return your call to confirm.
Call a day ahead and leave a message to make an appointment.
The best time of day to come in winter is in afternoon, between 1 and 5 p.m.  We have very limited heat in the sales building, so many early mornings in winter it is still in the 40's inside the building.  I also appreciate it if customers do not arrive between 12 noon and 1 p.m., as I go in the house to eat lunch then.
We still have about 750 pounds of 'GoldRush' apples in our cooler, which I'm sorting each day into #1's and #2's.  We should have these for sale for the next 3 to 5 weeks, until we sell out.  'GoldRush' apples will keep well in your refrigerator for 10 to 11 months, and they get sweeter in cold storage, as starches convert into sugars.  They turn bright yellow when fully ripened.  Prices are detailed in the previous blog post, dated Nov. 24 (scroll down).
I just sorted and packed this 20-pound box of #1 'GoldRush' apples today, and it will sell tomorrow to a customer who ordered it this morning.
As stated in the Nov. 24 blog, we're now sold out of pecans for the season.  We had a very small pecan crop this year due to the April 16 freeze.  Those who want pecans and didn't get them from us may get them from Miller Pecan Company in Afton, OK.  They have 'Kanza' pecans and other varieties.  Their website is https://www.millerpecancompany.com/freshnuts/
We do still have many of Bill's homemade jams for sale, all made from our homegrown fruit.  These are made with more fruit and less sugar, so are healthier and taste much better than most jams sold in grocery stores.
Some mornings I have Bill's homemade jams on raisin bread toast for breakfast.  Purple raspberry jam is at top left, peach rum preserves at top right, and apple butter at bottom.

'GoldRush' Apples & Jams for Sale Now

Our last bags of cracked pecans sold today, so we're now sold out of pecans for the season.  We had a very small pecan crop this year due to the April 16 freeze.
We still have about 1000 pounds of 'GoldRush' apples in our cooler, which I'm sorting each day into #1's and #2's.  We should have these for sale for the next 4 to 6 weeks, until we sell out.  'GoldRush' apples will keep well in your refrigerator for 10 to 11 months, and they get sweeter in cold storage, as starches convert into sugars.  They turn bright yellow when fully ripened.
We'll still have 'GoldRush' apples for sale for 4 to 6 more weeks, and they'll keep 10 to 11 months in your refrigerator, getting sweeter in cold storage.
Small amounts of harvested #1 apples cost $1.30 per pound + tax.  A 20-lb. box of #1 apples costs $25.00 + tax ($1.25 per pound + tax), which saves $1.00 off the per-pound price. 2nds apples, with small cracks, cork spots, hail damage, or other surface damage, are great for baking, slicing for salads, or for making applesauce or apple butter.  Usually 95% to 99% of each fruit is still usable, but they're 70% or less the cost, at $0.93 per pound + tax for less than 20 pounds and $0.88 per pound + tax for 20 pounds.
We also have Bill's homemade jams for sale, all made from our homegrown fruit.  These are made with more fruit and less sugar, so are healthier and taste much better than most jams sold in grocery stores.  Each pint jar of jam, apple butter or other fruit products cost $5.56 + tax.
We still have many of Bill's homemade jams for sale. Many people give them as Christmas gifts.
We're still open our usual fall hours (see sidebar at left) every day until Nov. 30. If you want me to return your call, state your phone number clearly in your message.

Apples & Pecans to Sell Out Sooner

"Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.  You will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God.  Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"  2 Corinthians 9: 11-12, 15

"I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity.  In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.  I can do all things through Him who strengthens me."  Philippians 4:12-13

We now have less than 1400 pounds of apples in our sales building cooler, all 'GoldRush'.  Last year at this time we had over 14,000 pounds of apples in our two coolers.  So we'll sell out of apples earlier than stated before, probably by mid- to late Jan., and I've changed the end date for harvested apples in the sidebar at left.  Apple prices are detailed in the last blog post, dated Nov. 9.
We'll still have 'GoldRush' apples for sale for the next 1 to 2 months. They'll keep well in your refrigerator for 10 to 11 months.
We still have some cracked pecans for sale in 4-pound bags for about the next week.  These are described and prices given in the last blog post, dated Nov. 9.  My husband Bill only has a few more trees to harvest, hopefully in the next few days.
Bill harvested the 'Kanza' pecan trees in our pecan orchard on Sun. afternoon Nov. 11, just before it snowed.  That was the only good day for pecan harvest in the last 3 weeks.  He hopes to harvest 'Lakota' pecans in a few days.
The pecan crop is even smaller than we first thought, and many are buying them, so we do have to limit the number of pecan bags we sell to each household.  Pecans will also sell out earlier than stated before, so I've changed the end date for harvested and cracked pecans in the sidebar at left.
Most of the 'Kanza' pecan bag have sold already, but we'll still have some for sale for the next couple days.  Late this week we hope to have a few 'Lakota' pecans harvested, dried, cleaned and cracked so we can sell them.
Those who want pecans and can't get them from us may get them from Miller Pecan Company in Afton, OK.   They have 'Kanza' pecans and other varieties.  Their website is https://www.millerpecancompany.com/freshnuts/
We'll be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but open our usual fall hours (see sidebar at left) every other day until Nov. 30.
If you want me to return your call, state your phone number clearly in your message.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, praising God for sending His Son into the world.  Jesus' death on the cross paid the price for all our sins, and His resurrection from the dead proved that He conquered sin and death.  So all who accept Him as Savior and Lord are forgiven from all wrongdoing and free to walk in the Holy Spirit in newness of life eternally!
