Prime Peach Season is Now

We're now right in the middle of our 2-month-long peach harvest season, and the peach trees are at the peak of their production.  We grow 18 different peach varieties, and each variety ripens its fruit over about a 10-day period, so we have a succession of varieties ripening very early, early, early-midseason, midseasaon, late-midseason, late, and very late.  Right now we have 7 different yellow-fleshed peach varieties and one white-fleshed peach variety for sale.
The yellow peaches include my favorite peach variety, 'Intrepid', plus 'Contender', 'Coralstar', 'Starfire' and others.  The white peach variety is 'Nectar'.  All our peach varieties are freestone, and all have excellent flavor.  I give taste samples to those interested in buying peaches.
'Coralstar' yellow peaches are among the varieties our workers are harvesting now.
Our workers have harvested 400 to 500 pounds of peaches per day for the past 3 days, and we've just hired 2 more workers to help with peach harvest, so we now have 7 workers.  They harvest peaches from 6:45 a.m. to 12 noon each morning, Monday to Saturday.  The workers have Sunday mornings off and we're closed Sunday mornings for church.
Customers have only bought 200 to 300 pounds of peaches per day for the past 3 days, so our cooler is getting almost full.  Several people have told me they're coming Sat. morning July 27 to buy peaches, but we really need some customers to come get peaches during our open hours this evening (7 to 9 p.m.) or Fri. morning July 26 (open 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon).  That way we'll have some space in the cooler to put the 300 to 500 pounds of peaches that need to be harvested tomorrow morning.
Our workers almost filled our cooler today with 20-pound boxes of peaches they've harvested over the past 3 days, so we need some customers to come get peaches during our open hours this evening (7 to 9 p.m.) or Fri. morning July 26 (open 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon).
Small amounts of harvested peaches cost $1.30 per pound + tax.  We pick directly into 20-lb. boxes, which I then weigh to exactly 20.0 lbs., so you save $1.00 if you buy a 20-lb. box of peaches for $25.00 + tax.  We also usually have some nice 2nds peaches with rain cracks, limb rubs or other surface damage, which sell for just $0.88 per pound + tax.
We also still have lots of blackberries to pick now through the first week in Aug.  All our thornless blackberries cost $2.78 per quart + sales tax, pick-your-own, and are sold pick-your-own only.  There are NO chiggers or thorns, and you can pick a quart in 5 minutes.
The Mahurin family had lots of fun picking thornless blackberries on Tues. morning July 23. Mom & 2 kids picked 10 quarts in about 25 minutes.
For payment, we accept cash or checks; NO debit cards or credit cards.  Please bring your checkbook or enough cash to cover what you'll buy.
Our parking areas can fit 3 vehicles between each pair of oak trees (which provide nice shade for your vehicle).  So please pull in straight, fairly close to a tree, or into the middle spot if 2 other vehicles are already parked next to the 2 trees.  That way we'll have enough parking spots for everyone who's coming to get fruit.  Thanks.
Have your vehicle cleaned out so there's room to put trays of berries and peach boxes or bags.  These fruits travel best in open trays, where they receive air conditioning from the vehicle, not in a car trunk or in an ice chest, so don't take up room in the vehicle with an ice chest.  We keep our cooler at 50 F, ideal for peaches, as they can get chilling injury at temperatures below 50 F or if put directly on ice.  Once you get them home, both blackberries and peaches keep well for 10 days in a refrigerator.
