Harvested Asparagus & Apples for Sale Now

   Asparagus is growing well now, and I'm harvesting it 2 times per day.  I break each spear where it snaps off easily, so almost the entire spear is tender and usable.

We grow 'Jersey Knight' asparagus, an all-male variety that produces many thicker spears that are tender and delicious.

   We have some asparagus for sale now and for the next 7 weeks or so, until early June.  Asparagus is limited so you do need to phone 620-597-2450 a day or two ahead and order it.

   Revised projected sales dates for all our crops are shown in the updated sidebar at left under Crop Sales Seasons.  That also tells which crops we sell harvested, and which crops we sell pick-your-own.

   We had a large apple crop last fall, and we still have over 3400 pounds of harvested 'Enterprise' apples, and over 1600 pounds of harvested 'Gold Rush' apples, in large bins stored in our larger cooler.  I'll sort apples out of those bins all spring, whenever it's too cold or wet to work outside, so we'll have both 'Enterprise' and 'Gold Rush' harvested apples for sale until May or June.  Call ahead to order them, though, so I can have them sorted, cleaned and packed for you when you arrive here.

   'Gold Rush' apples have gotten very sweet now that they've been stored for 5 months in the cooler, as starches have converted into sugars.  'Gold Rush' apples keep well in our cooler or your fridge for 10 months, staying very crisp, juicy and sweet.  'Enterprise' apples keep well in our cooler or your fridge for 6 to 8 months for fresh eating, and months longer for applesauce and baking.

We have harvested 'Gold Rush' apples (left tray) for sale now until May, and harvested 'Enterprise' apples (right tray) for sale now until June.

   This is a great time of year to buy 2nds apples for making pie filling, dried apples, apple butter, etc.  Many people want 2nds apples in Sept., when our main apple season hasn't even started yet, but we have lots now.

   We're still open now through June 14 by appointment, which means to phone 620-597-2450 a day or two ahead and leave a message on our landline's answering machine saying your name, when you'll come, and what you want to buy.  You can make an appointment to arrive here between 10 & 11:30 a.m., or between 1:15 & 5:15 p.m., Mon. to Sat.

   We have lots of pruning to do on apple, pear and peach trees, whenever the weather is nice.  When I'm working in the back orchards, I can't always see or hear vehicles drive in, and I don't carry a cell phone with me.  That's why we need you to call a day or so ahead and say the day and about what time you'll come.

   For payment, we accept cash and checks (from any state), but NO credit cards or debit cards.  We have no phone line to the sales building, and no card reader.  Please bring your checkbook or enough cash to cover the amount you want to buy.  Thanks.
