Harvested 'Gold Rush' Apples Now, Pecans Start Nov. 15

   Our pick-your-own apple season ended today.  We still have harvested 'Gold Rush' apples for sale now until we sell out, likely in Feb.  'Gold Rush' apples keep well in a refrigerator for 10 to 11 months, and are best for fresh eating after at least a month in the fridge, as starches convert into sugars and they get sweeter.  'Enterprise' apples have sold out for the season.

   Harvested apples cost $1.39 per pound + sales tax.  A 20-pound box of harvested apples costs $26.85 + sales tax, which saves $1.00 off the per-pound price.

   We often have some 2nds apples, with small cracks or other surface damage, which cost just $0.93 per pound + sales tax.  I'm harvesting a good amount of 2nds 'Gold Rush' now, as this variety is prone to fruit cracking when heavy fall rains occur after a summer drought, which happened this year.  Many people are eager to buy 2nds apples to make pie filling, applesauce, apple butter, etc., so they usually sell quickly in Nov. and Dec.

   We'll have harvested, cracked pecans for sale starting Mon. Nov. 15.  We have a good pecan crop this year, and anticipate having them for sale until Feb. or March.

  We sell cracked pecans in 4-pound bags, which are over 75% pecan kernels and under 25% shell fragments.  Each bag has the equivalent of 6 pounds of in-shell pecans, and when you pick out the pecan kernels, you get 3 pounds or more of nutmeats.  When ready, each bag will cost $18.52 + sales tax.

   All 'Harrow Sweet' pears have now sold.  As of this evening, we still have about 25 pounds of 'Shenandoah' pears in our cooler, which will likely sell in the next day or two.  We'll then be sold out of pears for the season.  Asian pears sold out a month ago.

   Our Fall Open Hours run from Sept. 1 until Nov. 30, as shown in the sidebar at left.  We're open Mon. to Sat. 9 a.m.to 12 noon and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sundays 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. only.  We're closed Sun. mornings for church services (as we are year-round), and closed from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. each day so I can take a lunch break.

   During our open hours, I'm usually out harvesting the fruit.  I put a sign up on our sales building by our bell, so ring the bell loudly and I'll hear it and come to the sales building.

   For payment, we accept cash and checks (from any state), but NO credit cards or debit cards.  We have no phone line to the sales building, and no card reader.  Please bring your checkbook or enough cash to cover the amount you want to buy.  Thanks.
