Open Fall Hours, Now to Dec. 15

I'm still harvesting 'Blake's Pride' pears, and we have many for sale now until late Sept.  These pears have a wonderful, sweet flavor and a smooth, buttery texture.  They're great for fresh eating, baking and canning.

We have many 'Blake's Pride' pears for sale now until mid-late Sept.
We'll have 'Harrow Sweet' pears for sale from about Sept. 20 until late Oct., and 'Shenandoah' pears for sale from about Oct. 2 till mid-Nov.

I've just started harvesting 'Shinko' Asian pears, and we'll have some for sale now until early Oct.  Asian pears are shaped like apple and eaten fresh like apples, plus used in salads and stir-fry dishes.  They're very crunchy, very sweet and very juicy.

We sell harvested #1 pears for $1.42 per pound + sales tax, and harvested #2 (2nds) pears for $1.09 per pound + sales tax.  If you get a 20-pound box with 2 bags of #1 pears (or a bag of pears and a bag of apples), the price goes down to $1.37 per pound.  So a 20-pound box of #1 apples and/or pears costs $27.49 + sales tax, and you save a dollar.

We still have many long-keeping 'Enterprise' and 'Sundance' harvested apples for sale for the next 3 weeks or so.  These were harvested in Nov. 2022 and keep in top condition in our coolers at 34 F.  Apple prices are the same as pears.  If you want more than 20 pounds of apples, please call 620-597-2450 a few days ahead and leave a message on our answering machine, so I can have them sorted, cleaned and packed for you.

I'll start harvesting the new apple crop in late Sept., but it will be very sparse this fall.  Our pick-your-own apple season, shown in the left sidebar under Crop Sales Seasons, will only go for 2.5 weeks this fall, and we'll only have 'Enterprise' to pick.  We have many great-quality apples now, so buy them while we have them.  I give taste samples, and almost everyone who tries these apples loves them and buys some.

Our Fall Hours now run from Sept. 1 to Dec. 15.
From Sept. 1 to Dec. 15, we're open our Fall Hours, shown in the left sidebar under Open Hours.  I'm very busy harvesting pears in early mornings, so if you drop by before 10:30 a.m., ring the bell on the sales building porch very loudly.  We prefer that people come to get pears and/or apples in late mornings, arriving here between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., or afternoons, arriving here between 1:30 and 5:00 p.m.

If you arrive here on hot late afternoons, after 3:30 p.m., there may be a sign up saying I'm working on the computer (as I am now), so call the house at 620-597-2450.  If you don't have a phone with you, simply walk to the house and ring the doorbell.

We are open are regular Fall Hours all of Labor Day weekend, as we are every year.

Those visiting us from Joplin, MO should take 7th St. to Galena, KS then Hwy. 66 to Riverton and Baxter Springs, KS, then Hwy. 166 for 15.0 miles west to Brenda's Berries & Orchards as usual.  Hwy. 166 is closed from Baxter Springs to 4.0 miles east of Baxter Springs for road work this summer and fall.

As always, we take cash or checks for payment, but NO credit cards or debit cards.  So please bring your checkbook or enough cash to cover the amount of fruit you want to buy.  Thanks.
