Neosho River Flooding, but Not on Our Road

After almost 7 inches of rain in the past 9 days, the Neosho River is flooding.  We expect to have floodwater on our pecan orchard from this Fri. May 10 through Mon. May 13, but water should not cover 95th St.  So our workers should be able to get here on Fri. & Sat., and customers can still get here to buy asparagus.
Floodwater will cover our pecan orchard of younger trees to the right, and our neighbor's older native pecan trees to the left of the road, from Fri. May 10 to Mon. May 13, but should not cover 95th St.
We still have plenty of asparagus for sale.  See the previous blog post for description and price.  You do need to phone 620-597-2450 a day ahead and leave a message on our answering machine to order asparagus, saying about how many pounds you want to get, and the day & time you'll come get it.  Our phone rings in our house, so I'll get your message when I come in from working in the orchard.  I'll return your call in the evening to confirm.
We're very busy now, whenever it's not raining, pruning all our fruit plants and thinning peaches.  Our earliest-ripening thornless blackberry varieties are blooming now, and raspberries have been blooming for the past 2 weeks, with many young fruit developing.
'Ouachita' thornless blackberries are blooming now (right row), as are 'Natchez' blackberries (left row).
It looks like pick-your-own raspberries will start a few days earlier this year, in the last few days of May.  We're still open by appointment through May 31, so you'll need to call a day ahead if you want to pick the first raspberries.  By early June, when we're open our summer hours (see sidebar at left), red raspberries will be more plentiful and you don't need an appointment.
The sidebar at left tells seasons for all our crops, open hours for each season, payment methods, etc.  We're looking forward to great crops of all our fruits this year.
