Many Pears, Some Apples Now

Many people have wanted harvested #2 'Enterprise' apples in the past couple weeks, to make pie filling, applesauce or apple butter.  Our very limited 2023 'Enterprise' apple crop has already sold out, but we still have some 'Enterprise' apples harvested in Nov. 2022 from the bumper crop we had last year.  Since I finished harvesting pears a week ago, and have now almost finished harvesting all apples from my breeding program, I now have time to sort, clean and pack these 'Enterprise' apples for sale whenever it rains, as it did today.

These 2022 'Enterprise' apples have a rich flavor and are ideal for making pie filling, applesauce or apple butter.  We sell #2 2022 apples (with small cracks or other surface damage) for the same price as this year's #2 apples and pears (see below).  We've now reduced the price on #1 2022 apples, with no damage, to $1.28 per pound + sales tax, even though we had the extra expense of running 2 coolers for the past year to keep these apples in top condition.

I just sorted, cleaned and packed these 2022 'Enterprise' apples today. The blue box (left) has #2 apples & the green box (right) has #1 apples.
We also have some newly-harvested apples from my apple breeding program for sale.  'Shinko' Asian pears have almost sold out now.  We still have about 8 pounds of #1 Asian pears for sale, plus about 45 pounds of #2 Asian pears.   I give taste samples of all fruit varieties available when you come.

We still have about 750 pounds of  'Harrow Sweet' pears in our cooler, packed in 20-pound boxes and ready to sell, plus about 22 pounds of #2 pears.  These pears are very sweet with a smooth, buttery texture, and are wonderful for baking and fresh eating.  They also make great pie filling, pear sauce or pear butter.  I like pear butter better than apple butter.

'Harrow Sweet' pears are very sweet, great for fresh eating and make wonderful pie filling, pear sauce or pear butter.
We sell harvested #1 pears and apples for $1.42 per pound + sales tax, and harvested #2 (2nds) pears and apples for $1.09 per pound + sales tax.  If you get a 20-pound box with 2 bags of #1 pears (or a bag of pears and a bag of apples), the price goes down to $1.37 per pound.  So a 20-pound box of #1 pears and/or apples costs $27.49 + sales tax, and you save a dollar.

We'll have harvested, cracked pecans for sale starting Nov. 14.  Pecan sales start in mid-Nov. every year.  Thanks to the rain we got 3 weeks ago, we'll have a very good pecan crop this year, so we should have pecans for sale until at least mid-March 2024.

We sell cracked pecans in 4-pound bags, which are over 75% pecan kernels and under 25% shell fragments.  Each bag has the equivalent of 6 pounds of in-shell pecans, and when you pick out the pecan kernels, you get 3 pounds or more of nutmeats.  Each bag costs $18.96 + sales tax.

We appreciate it if you phone 620-597-2450 a day ahead and leave a message on our answering machine saying the day and about what time you'll come, and what you want to buy.  Our Fall Open Hours are shown in the left sidebar.

As always, we take cash or checks for payment, but NO credit cards or debit cards.  So please bring your checkbook or enough cash to cover the amount of fruit you want to buy.  Thanks.
