Still Many Thornless Blackberries & Peaches Ripe

Thornless blackberries are still ripening in quantity, and cooler weather is coming on Mon. July 22.  Even today, with a heat index over 100 F this afternoon, it was quite pleasant in the blackberry planting at 7:30 a.m. when we opened.  Take advantage of the huge blackberry crop this year to fill the freezer.
'Apache' blackberries are huge and make great cobblers. Many are ripe now and for the next 10 days to 2 weeks.
'Apache' blackberries are huge, and many are ripe now and for the next 10 days to 2 weeks.  'Ouachita' berries are also still ripening for another 7 to 10 days, and 'Triple Crown' berries are ripe now and for the next 2 to 3 weeks.  See previous blog posts for descriptions of each variety.  We have lots of blackberries to pick now through the first week in Aug.
All our thornless blackberries cost $2.78 per quart + sales tax, pick-your-own, and are sold pick-your-own only.  There are NO chiggers or thorns, and you can pick a quart in 5 minutes.
We provide containers, and just ask that you return the containers to us for reuse on your next trip to Brenda's Berries.  Please also bring back any peach boxes or other containers you previously got from us.  Thanks.
From June 1 to Aug. 31, as shown in the sidebar at left, we're open our summer hours: open 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon & 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mon.-Sat., and closed noon to 7 p.m. due to high summer heat.  We're also closed Sunday mornings for church, so on Sundays we're open 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. only.  If you tell others about us, please let them know these summer hours.  Thanks.
We also have harvested yellow peaches and white peaches for sale during these same hours.  Those who come to pick blackberries in the mornings can always get some harvested peaches after they finish picking blackberries.  Those who want only peaches should arrive after 9 a.m. to give our workers time to pick the peaches.
We still have some 'Nectar' white peaches (left) and 'Starfire' yellow peaches for sale.  We've almost finished picking these 2 varieties, so come in the next few days, during our open hours, if you want to get some.
Small amounts of harvested peaches cost $1.30 per pound + tax.  We pick directly into 20-lb. boxes, which I then weigh to exactly 20.0 lbs., so you save $1.00 if you buy a 20-lb. box of peaches for $25.00 + tax.  We also usually have some nice 2nds peaches with rain cracks, limb rubs or other surface damage, which sell for just $0.88 per pound + tax.
If you want more than a 20-pound box of peaches, call 620-597-2450 the day before you want to come, to see if we'll have as many as you want or not.  Leave a message on our answering machine with your name and phone number including area code, and I'll call you back to confirm your peach order.  Our phone rings in our house, so I'll get your message when I come in from working in the orchards and sales building.  So please call a day ahead, or in the afternoon if you want to come that evening.
Right now we still have some 'Challenger', 'Blazingstar' and 'Starfire' yellow peaches, and 'Nectar' white peaches, for sale.  Next week our workers will harvest 'Coralstar', and by midweek they'll start harvesting 'Contender' and 'Allstar' yellow peaches.  I give taste samples of varieties ripe at the time that you come.  All our peach varieties are freestone.
