Asparagus & Apples for Sale, No Raspberry Crops this Summer

We still have asparagus for sale now and for the next 3 weeks or so, until early June.  Asparagus is limited so you do need to phone 620-597-2450 a day or two ahead and order it.  Asparagus is just $2.84 per pound + tax, harvested.

We grow 'Jersey Knight' asparagus, an all-male variety that produces many thicker spears that are tender and delicious.
The historic 5-month summer and fall 2022 drought killed many raspberry primocanes, so we'll have no raspberry crops this June.  The black raspberry and purple raspberry plants will produce crops in 2024, but almost all of the red raspberry plants died.  So we've retired from growing red raspberries.

Blackberry plants are more drought-tolerant, so we'll have a thornless blackberry crop this summer, but it will be less plentiful.  The peach crop was also reduced, but thankfully we've gotten some rain and more is predicted, so we should have some peaches for sale in late July and all of August.

Revised projected sales dates for all our crops are shown in the newly updated sidebar at left under Crop Sales Seasons.  That also tells which crops we sell harvested, and which crops we sell pick-your-own.

We'll have only a few 'Enterprise' apples and NO 'Gold Rush' apples this fall 2023, as fruit buds for the fall 2023 crop set in Aug. 2022.  Very few fruit buds set for this year's apple crop due to the extended drought in summer and fall 2022 and the heavy 2022 crop.  A few varieties from my apple breeding program have good fruit set for this fall's crop, but those wanting 'Enterprise' and 'Gold Rush' apples should get them in the next 2 months.

We had a large apple crop last fall, and we still have many harvested 'Enterprise' and 'Gold Rush' apples for sale, now until June or July.  Call ahead to order them, though, so I can have them sorted, cleaned and packed for you when you arrive here.

We have harvested 'Gold Rush' apples (left tray) for sale now until June, and harvested 'Enterprise' apples (right tray) for sale now until July.

'Gold Rush' apples have gotten very sweet now that they've been stored for 6 months in the cooler, as starches have converted into sugars.  'Gold Rush' apples keep well in our cooler or your fridge for 10 months, staying very crisp, juicy and sweet.  'Enterprise' apples keep well in our cooler or your fridge for 7 to 8 months for fresh eating, and months longer for applesauce and baking.

We sell #1 harvested apples for $1.42 per pound + sales tax.  I pack the #1 fruit directly into 2 bags in each box, which I weigh to 20.0 pounds.  If you get a 20-pound box of apples, the price goes down to $1.37 per pound + sales tax.  So a 20-pound box of apples costs $27.49 + sales tax, and you save $1.00.

We sell #2 (2nds) apples, with cracks or other surface damage, for $1.09 per pound + sales tax.  This is a great time of year to buy 2nds apples for making pie filling, dried apples, apple butter, etc.  Many people want 2nds apples in Sept., but our fall 2023 apple crop will be very limited due to the 2022 drought and 2023 spring frosts, and we have lots of good #1 and #2 apples now.

We're still open now through May 31 by appointment, which means to phone 620-597-2450 a day or two ahead and leave a message on our landline's answering machine saying your name, when you'll come, and what you want to buy.

Our summer open hours, from June 1 to Aug. 31, are shown in the sidebar at left under Open Hours.

For payment, we accept cash and checks (from any state), but NO credit cards or debit cards.  We have no phone line to the sales building, and no card reader.  Please bring your checkbook or enough cash to cover the amount you want to buy.  Thanks.
