Blackberry Harvest Delayed, Avoiding Road Work

The thornless blackberry season was delayed this year by a very late frost on April 23, which killed the earliest blackberry flowers.  Thornless blackberries will ripen from about June 26 to July 30 this year.  Thornless blackberries are sold pick-your-own only, for $4.74 per quart + sales tax.

'Natchez' thornless blackberries will start ripening about June 26. Plants are still flowering, so more berries will ripen until about July 30.
We've now retired from growing all types of raspberries for sale, so our only berry crop from now on will be thornless blackberries.  So we've adjusted the dates for our Summer Open Hours, shown in the sidebar at left under Open Hours.

Our Summer Hours will now start June 15, and will still go until Aug. 31.  During those dates, we're open 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mon. to Sat., and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. only on Sundays.  If you tell others about us, please tell them these open hours.

We've also adjusted the dates of our Fall Open Hours, as shown in the sidebar at left.  Our Fall Hours will still begin on Sept. 1, but will now continue until Dec. 15.  From Dec. 16 to June 14, we're open by appointment, which means to phone 620-597-2450 a day ahead and leave a message on our landline's answering machine saying when you'll come and what you want to buy.

Crop Sales Seasons have also been updated in the sidebar at left to reflect current and expected conditions.  This also shows which crops we sell harvested, and which crops we sell pick-your-own.

We still have many 'Enterprise' and 'Gold Rush' harvested apples for sale for the next couple months.  See the June 4, 2023 blog post for prices on apples.

Those visiting us from Joplin, MO should take 7th St. to Galena, KS then Hwy. 66 to Riverton and Baxter Springs, KS, then Hwy. 166 for 15.0 miles west to Brenda's Berries & Orchards as usual.  Hwy. 166 is closed from Baxter Springs to 4.0 miles east of Baxter Springs for road work this summer.

For payment, we take cash or checks (from any state), but NO credit cards or debit cards.  Please bring you checkbook or enough cash to cover the amount of fruit you'll buy.  Thanks.
